Founded in July 1960, Longhua Hospital is affiliated with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is one of China's four earliest major TCM clinical bases. It is a national Class A tertiary hospital of traditional Chinese medicine with a strong "famous doctors, famous departments, famous hospital, famous herbs" tradition, pursuing an integrated TCM-and-Western-medicine path. The hospital is a pilot hospital for Shanghai international medical tourism and provides international medical services for overseas patients, including acupuncture, herbal paste (gaofang) and constitution conditioning. It is especially recognised for TCM oncology, orthopedics (Shi's traumatology), TCM surgery and breast disease, and nephrology, and is skilled at integrated care for complicated chronic diseases.

These points can help guide your research; they do not determine whether a hospital or treatment is right for you. Clinical decisions are made by the hospital’s licensed doctors.
The following reflects what we have learned while supporting international patients. Appointment arrangements, services and fees can vary; please confirm current details with the hospital.
Based on our experience, appointments at Longhua's international / VIP (特权) service are best arranged in advance, and the hospital is very popular with both local and overseas patients. The main hospital app and on-site registration do not offer an English interface, and counters may not have bilingual staff, so overseas patients usually find the international service the smoother route.
In our experience, foreign patients are generally not required to use an international service, though hospital policies may vary. Fees there are often substantially higher than at standard outpatient clinics. In return, it may offer dedicated consultation rooms, shorter waits, longer appointments and, in some cases, the ability to use international health insurance. For patients travelling alone, the additional support may make the visit easier.
For self-funded patients seeking a more economical option, we can help arrange care through the same channels used by local patients. Based on our experience, even after adding our coordination fee, the overall cost can be considerably lower than using the international service, while including advance appointment coordination, bilingual escort support and English medical reports.
